Coleen English-Thomas is a Blue Mountains (NSW, Australia) artist and currently paints with paper to make soothing, circular compositions. She enjoys working with charcoal, pastel, ink and paint when feeling expressive and playful, and when feeling contemplative and desiring constraint, she challenges herself with collage. Coleen especially loves to play with broken pieces such as torn paper, bark or leaves and arranges them until they seem to belong together. This reflects her beliefs that in nature and people, broken can be beautiful, that she is inspired by imperfections and that ‘real’ people are beautiful people.
With a background in graphic design, Coleen loves to carefully arrange elements on a page both traditionally and digitally. She enjoys the challenge of constraints for graphic design but needs the freedom and expression of art.
