Ask for something beautiful and it’s likely I’ll present you with something smooth and circular…and/or a leaf.
The circle was initially chosen as a representation of connection, community and perhaps a little bit of an obsession with this soothing shape.
Tearing up artworks from my early years at Bundanon, to reuse in artworks as leaves and landscape shapes, happened spontaneously (after brainstorming the Stories from Leaves theme with The Creative Collective) and lead me to finding and arranging more broken pieces, including leaves and torn pieces of painted paper. My ‘Leafcircles’ evolved and as I continued to create with nature and people as my inspiration the ‘Broken, Beautiful’ series began…
These works reflect my beliefs that in nature and people, broken can be beautiful, that I am inspired by imperfections and that ‘real’ people are beautiful people.
