‘Moth to the Flame’

I love a good deadline (yes I am a graphic designer too) and the idea of submitting an artwork for Culturescape 2017 before travelling for Christmas 2016 was a little overwhelming, but imagining my art projected onto The Carrington Hotel was irresistible. I am a huge fan of Vivid, Sydney, come rain, hail or shine.

‘Moth to the flame’ was inspired by multiple moth sightings across the Blue Mountains. This artwork is based on a moth that I photographed at Braemar House & Gallery, Springwood in 2016. It was almost camouflaged on the floorboards until the pinkish colours dazzled me. I was excited more than usual because of the amount of beautiful moths that had showed up over a year in the Blue Mountains. I amusingly decided they were ‘moth messengers’ to remind me to look beyond obvious beauty for inspiration and motivation for my art.

The good news email arrived in early February:

Congratulations, your artwork has been selected for the main projection sequence of Culturescape Blue Mountains 2017.

I’m looking forward to Culturescape, to seeing how people are drawn to the colours and lights of Culturescape, just like a moth to the flame (and unlike a human to the moth, poor outshone moths.)

Please email me if you would like to purchase a limited edition print of this custom artwork. Available for a limited time for the event. There are only 5 in the edition.
